Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez is appointed as the new CRE Commissioner

Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez was appointed Commissioner of the Energy Regulatory Commission ("CRE").
The Commissioner's term of office will expire on December 31, 2030.
This assignment may be extended for another seven years.

As a result of the vacancy generated in the CRE due to the death of Commissioner José Alberto Celestinos last year, on March 30, 2023, the Senate of the Republic approved the appointment of Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez as the new CRE Commissioner with 92 votes in favor.

Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez will serve as Commissioner for seven years, ending his term on December 31, 2030. This term may be extended for an additional seven-year period.

Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez was the winner among the three candidates that the Federal Executive presented to the Senate at the beginning of the month. The other two candidates were Alfonso López Alvarado and Víctor David Palacios Gutiérrez, who previously were also candidates for a CRE Commissioner position in 2020 and January 2023.

Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez holds a degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and has completed the course "Tecnología Solar Doméstica," taught by said university. Since 2021, he was the General Director of Clean Energies at the Ministry of Energy ("SENER") and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Subsidiary Generation VI of the Federal Electricity Commission. During 2018-2021, he was Private Secretary of the Sub-Directorate of Hydrocarbons of SENER and was a representative in the Technical Committee of the Universal Electric Service Fund of SENER.

It should be noted that the CRE has an additional vacancy for a Commissioner position since Luis Guillermo Pineda Bernal's term expired on December 31, 2022.
